ZOOM LOGO REDESIGN
For this concept project, I redesigned the zoom logo.
There are handful of issues with the current logo that I felt needed some change:
1. It's too generic. The video camera icon is well-known and understood but also very generic. For example, Apple uses a similar icon for their Facetime app. Though this recognition helps users understand what zoom does, it does not help the zoom brand become distinct.
2. Lack of cohesion. The wordmark and icon may have the same color and slightly rounded corners, but they lack a sense of unity. They feel thrown together without much thought.
3. It's limiting. Zoom does more than just videoconferencing; they enable hybrid workforces to succeed, make it easy to share ideas and collaborate, and lead the industry in call quality and feature set. Using just a video camera as their logo doesn't do justice to the power and reach of the zoom brand.
I took each of these weaknesses into consideration and created a cohesive wordmark that elevates the zoom brand beyond it's current state. I kept the colors the same, as I feel they fit zoom's positioning and target customers. I also kept the rounded edges of the wordmark intact, as those add a feeling of approachability to the brand.
